Your first Durga Puja in Bangalore: what to expect at BSS

You do not need to know every ritual before you arrive. BSS welcomes visitors to experience Puja, music, dance, Bhog and community at The Occasion in Hoodi.

Can I visit if this is my first Durga Puja?

Yes. You do not have to be Bengali or Sylheti to visit BSS Durga Puja. Come respectfully, observe what is happening and ask a BSS volunteer if you are unsure about participating in a ritual. BSS Durga Puja 2026 runs from Friday, 16 October to Wednesday, 21 October at The Occasion, Hoodi.

What happens at a community Durga Puja?

Durga Puja is worship, but a community Puja is also several days of meeting people, sharing food and enjoying cultural programmes. Your experience will depend on when you visit. A morning visit may include Puja or Pushpanjali. An afternoon visit can be planned around Bhog. Evening programmes at BSS include music, Dandiya, Sandhya Arati and Dhunuchi on different days.

You can participate where appropriate or simply observe. The official BSS schedule is the best place to confirm what is happening on the day you plan to visit.

Shasthi begins with Puja at 6:06 AM, Pushpanjali at 9:30 AM and Bodhon, Amantran and Adhibas at 7:00 PM.

Live music · 17 October

Saptami includes Pushpanjali at 11:00 AM, Sandhya Arati at 7:00 PM and the Ochin Pakhi live band at 8:00 PM.

Dandiya evening · 18 October

Ashtami Puja is at 6:00 AM, Pushpanjali at 11:00 AM and DJ & Dandiya at 7:30 PM.

Sandhi Puja and Dhunuchi · 19 October

Sandhi Puja is at 7:26 AM. The evening Dhaker Tale and Dhunuchi Competition is at 7:30 PM.

Dhamail and Navami · 20 October

Navami Puja is at 6:00 AM, Dhamail of Unity at 12:00 PM and Dandiya at 7:30 PM.

Bijoya Dashami · 21 October

Dashami Puja is at 6:00 AM, Sindhur Khela at 10:30 AM and Shanti Jol at 7:00 PM.

Bhog is served from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM every Puja day. If a specific ritual or programme matters to you, use the complete schedule rather than relying only on this summary.

First-visit essentials

  1. Check the day’s programme. Puja, Pushpanjali and cultural timings change by date. Start with the confirmed timetable.
  2. Use live directions. The venue is The Occasion Bengaluru in Hoodi. BSS does not publish guaranteed travel times, so check your route before leaving.
  3. Wear something comfortable and respectful. Festive or traditional clothing is welcome, but it is not required to visit.

BSS brings together Sylhetis and friends of the community in Bengaluru.
