What exactly is Durga Puja bhog?

Bhog begins as an offering to Maa Durga and is then shared as prasad. But anyone who has grown up around a community Puja knows that it is also one of the moments when the whole pandal slows down and eats together. Families, friends, volunteers and people who may have met for the first time that morning end up sharing the same afternoon meal.

Menus and household traditions differ, but khichuri, mixed vegetables or labra, bhaja, chutney and something sweet are closely associated with community Durga Puja bhog. For us, the more important part is the act of sharing it.

Do I need to be Bengali or Sylheti?

No. Please come. BSS has its roots in the Sylheti community, and we are proud of that identity, but Durga Puja is not a closed community event. If you are Bengali, Assamese, Odia, Kannadiga, from another part of India, or simply curious about the festival, you are welcome to experience it with us.

If bhog is an important part of your visit, reach The Occasion before the 1:30 PM service window. You can spend time at the Puja, meet people and then stay for the cultural programme. The exact ritual and evening programme changes by day, so check our day-wise schedule before you leave home.
